Statins Tied To Reduced Cancer Deaths

Statins Tied To Reduced Cancer Deaths

This article describes the relation of statins and cancer death. This research shows that people who regularly take statins and then are diagnosed with cancer were 15% less likely to die from the cancer. The research also stated that starting to take statins after being diagnosed with cancer would not be effective. Because cholesterol is so important in the production of new cells, it is understandable that lowering cholesterol would oppose the progress of cancer. This is interesting to me mostly because I want to do cancer research after I graduate. This article was also really interesting because we have been studying statins in our device design group. Statins are a method of treating coronary artery disease but I now know that they have other medical uses as well!
