The link above for the webpage "Prophylactic Brain Radiation Therapy Doesn’t Seem to Cause Cognitive Problems" seemed to interest me because of my particular major, Radiological Health Engineering. In this field that I am studying, it has been brought to my attention that we must take responsibility for people's feelings toward nuclear energy. Radiation (along with nuclear energy) are much less harmful than people believe it to be and are an amazing source of energy that is less costly and less environmentally compromising than fossil fuels or coal. Rather than lecture you on how great an alternative source of energy would be, I will focus on explaining how amazing an advance in radiation usage in the medical field is just as interesting.

At first glance, most people would assume radiation therapy on the brain is a bad road to take. Most people would be pretty accurate in their assumption. On the contrary, the doctors in the article have actually found that it is not harmful and the women did not experience any more cognitive problems as a regular woman who hasn't undergone this radiation therapy. The brain radiation therapy is mainly preventative to metastasis that usually occurs in breast cancer, especially the aggressive strings of breast cancer. The radiation therapy was also found to potentially prolong the life of a woman diagnosed with breast cancer, offering a promising area of research.
