Spinal Nerve Regrowth with Treatment of Olfactory Ensheathing Cells

For one of the first times ever, nerve growth in the spine has been induced and shown to cause significant improvement of paralysis.  This research was conducted at Cambridge University and was done investigating the properties of Olfactory Ensheathing Cells (OEC).  These cells are known to have the ability of growing and maintaining nerves to the brain from the nose.  These cells were then transplanted into the spines (at injury site) of 34 dogs, mostly dachshunds, around a year after the injury and paralysis. What resulted next was the animals regained the ability to feel and move their hind legs which were once paralysed. The article also includes a video of "Jasper" one of the dachshunds that regained functional control of his hind legs.
