Cryptorchidism: increased incidence of testicular cancer

Article

Studies have shown that children with testes that have not descended at birth are up to three times more likely to develop testicular cancer later in life. Studies have suggested that while staying in the abdomen, the testes are exposed to higher temperatures for prolonged period of time and this may be the reason for the increased risk of testicular cancer. Adults that had cryptorchidism as newborns are now being questioned if they should be under more strenuous look out for the cancer.

This article was particularly interesting to me because first we have been discussing reproduction and some of the problems that can arise and secondly because someone in my family was born with this condition. This is great to know, and something that people should really monitor.
