In sequencing gene treatment for cancer

The link to the article can be found HERE

This article is fascinating and shows how medicine is turning toward individual treatments for every person. The scientists in this article compared the genes of normal cells and cancerous cells in the same person. When analyzed for different things it was found that one of the genes in the cancerous cells was in overdrive. This contributed for the high growth rate of cancer cells in the patient. In order to cure the patient a drug was given to suppress this particular gene. The patient, instead of dying, was successfully put in remission and is still living. This approach to cancer treatment was used in a leukemia patient but the successful process can be applied to other types of cancer and individual patients.

This article stood out to me because every cancer case is different. Not one person is the same and the movement to specific treatment for each individual is what can take medicine to the next level. Cancer is a huge killer in our society and others. This is a huge breakthrough. I personally like cancer advancements such as the one in this article because many people in my life have been affected by cancer.
