Computers implanted in brain could help paralyzed

In our lifetimes, we are going to see the explosion of the field of bioengineering. Leading this explosion will be the subfield of neural prosthetics. In the coming decades, the ability of humans to harness the power of the brain and use it by implanting devices that bridge machine and man will become reality.

Experiments have been taking place over the past several years and have shown that neural prosthetics not only works, but works very well. Primates have had devices planted in their brain that alow them to reach for objects with robotic arms. Paralyzed victims are able to think and move a cursor with the help of neural prosthetics. It is just a matter of time before neural prosthetics becomes a major player in the industry of medicine.

Once you are able to harness the human brain, the one thing that is responsible for every thing that you see around you; the possibilities are endless. This is the field of bioengineering I am most interested in because of the impact it could have on the world.
