New Model for Organ Repair

It has been proven by experimentation that kidney cells dedifferentiate into primordial versions of themselves and then dedifferentiate into the cells that are needed to replace damaged cells. The experiment was done on mice and a model has been made to show exactly how the kidney repairs itself. It was believed that kidney cells multiplied after injury and it has been proven true, but not only can they multiply once, they can multiply several times.

I found this interesting because the kidney is a very complex organ and there is a lot yet to be explained. This experiment will allow us to better explain how kidneys use stem cells to repair themselves.
