Three parent babies

In the UK a new therapeutic IVF method will be made available to some parents with high risk of having children with genetic disorders through legislation. The method involves using the DNA of a third person aside from the "parents" to replace faulty genes of the mitochondrial genome, which is inherited from the mother, with healthy genes. This method is controversial as it involves a human developing with DNA directly from three people and has been declared by a group called the Council of Europe "incompatible with human dignity and international law".
This developing therapy has shown some promise in animal models but isn't 100% so although I do think it is a creative method of fixing major genetic disorders it might not be the best idea to go ahead with therapies at this moment. I would say research into further enhancing and bettering the method should continue before jumping into human treatment.
