Organ trasnplats via Facebook?

With the number of organ recipients and not enough organ donors being an issue in the U.S. there are around 7,000 people on the recipient list that die before receiving an organ. Facebook has made it available to put "organ donor status" on your Facebook profile. For those concerned with the legalities of this the explanation that Facebook gives is that they aren't trying to make donors with recipients they are making social media have a positive affect on organ donations. With so many myths that go along with organ donation Facebook hopes that the information that needs to reach the many people unaware of the many possibilities that organ donors have gets done through Facebook.

This article interested me because this is a way that social technology is helping the healthcare. The research shows that there are a lot of people on Facebook and the percentage of them that die every year is increasing. This is good in an aspect that helps people that need the organs. This might not be technology being researched in labs but this is also a push that is needed to help that living.
