Thymus Transplantation Advances in DiGeorge Syndrome

The first article listed above gives a general overview of what DiGeorge Syndrome is and what it involves. To sum it up, DiGeorge Syndrome is caused by a deletion in the 22q11 chromosome. It causes facial deformities, parathyroid gland abnormalities, heart defects, thymus gland abnormalities and in some cases the entire thymus is missing. The only way currently to treat DiGeorge patients is to treat the affected organs.
The second article addresses a case in which 6 children were given thymus transplants in an attempt to treat the patients. Most of the patients in this study were born with a very small thymus or no thymus at all.
The last article addresses the facial characteristics of a DiGeorge patient. It also describes in detail the organs affected and how they are affected.
I chose to research some stuff on this because my niece has Di George Syndrome and I didn't know much about it but I wanted to learn more. Also me and Dr. Wasser briefly discussed it and he didn't know what it was so I figured I would write something about it so that now he might.
