How to have your lung capacity increased?

As we age, our lung condition will not be as good as before. The lung volume will decrease to some extent, so we all want to keep our lungs healthy. When we think of having our lung capacity preserved or increased, we think of some energy consuming cardiac exercise like swimming, running, etc, but there in facts are many other methods to do so.
For people like me who is very bad at exercising, there are breathing exercises. For example: 1. Simply holding air in your lungs for 5 - 10 seconds then breathe out slowly and gently is one of the method. 2. Pursed-lip breathing, where you inhale deeply with your nose as much as possible then breathe out with your pursed-lip.
Playing musical instruments also help because they require the players to adjust their breathing in their body. Diets and supplements that are rich in antioxidants, such as vitamins E and C, selenium, and beta carotene are found to improve lung functions from studies. Study also find that Statins, a drug that is commonly used to lower one's cholesterol, can help to reduce the loss of function of the lungs. 803 people had been examined who took Statins for 10 years daily, and their lungs had a slower annual decline than average people.
It is amazing that there are so many ways to make our lungs better. The reason I am interested in this article because I personally have a very small lung, and I cannot hold my breathe more than 25 seconds at best. It shocked me when Dr Wasser said that average people can hold breathe to a minute.

More details of the methods can be found from the source.
