Blogging about nanovectors;
My article is titled, ‘Cancer Nanotechnologies; Opportunities and Challenges’ and is about just that. The part of the article that I found particularly interesting, and the part that I have elected to write about, deals with nanovectors- which in this case describes nanotechnology that will basically deliver therapeutic medicines inside the body similar to the way liposomes are doing now. I found this article interesting because when people talk about ‘the cure for cancer’ it seems to me that the most efficient way to deal with a disease that causes cells to proliferate abnormally, is to deal with it on the cellular, or molecular level, and that the cure must be similar to the disease in that it will work as if it were one with our cells rather than some alien agent- which is how liposomes carryout their functions.
The liposomes work by using the “over expression of fenestration to increase drug concentration at tumor sites.” The article explains that liposomes are only the first and simplest types of nanovectors. As time goes by they are planning to further test nanovectors and improve them to work with different types of cancer. Already they have used nanovectors to give therapeutic medicineas that can aid in breast cancer.
