BME's training doctors...
Biomedical engineers just might get a chance to train doctors, if the new training center at Johns Hopkins is any indication. Although most of the 'patients' at the center, where doctors practice common medical tasks and hone their bedside manner, are professional actors, two are robots. These robots have pulses, heart tones, and breath sounds, and doctors in training can monitor their vitals. They behave 'just like humans' under a variety of operations, but have one key difference: they can't be killed. Another great example of biomedical engineering making strides in medicine to benefit patients (who don't have to be the guinea pigs for new doctors anymore!).
